The Story Behind The White Rocks Beach - Rosie's Easel Unlocked Landscapes
The White Rocks Crashing waves. Rolling surf. Towering white cliffs. The warm sand between your toes in summer and the Atlantic drizzle on your face in winter.
The white rocks are your reward if you walk 2 miles east along the stretch of glorious white strand leaving Portrush in County Antrim. We are spoilt for waves and surf in Northern Ireland but this has to be one of my favourite beaches for both.
I have used an ordnance survey map that is decades old to create this piece. The map is as old as many parents and grandparents in this region, who will fondly remind you that this is where they have come on their honeymoons, their family holidays and weekend breaks every year for those multiple decades.
Now this beach plays host to watersport enthusiasts and tourists from around the world. I’ve used the natural hue of the sea in the map to recreate the beautiful spring skies we have recently experienced and to depict how much this place resembles paradise on a warm summers day.
